科学系

Our vision is that all students at SI take the four years of science courses best suited to their interests and abilities. We urge students to make informed and realistic decisions about their science course selections in consultation with their counselors, 科学教师, 和父母.  

学生 who meet the criteria for admission listed below may enroll in an Honors or AP course without writing an application or appeal.

学生 who do no meet the criteria for an Honors/AP course may complete this appeal form, due to the department chair on the deadline specified by the academic office.

化学荣誉

• Completion of 生物学, Algebra 1 Accelerated, or Algebra 2H
• 科学GPA 3.3分或以上; overall GPA 3.3分或以上

物理学荣誉

• Completion of 生物学 and 化学 or 化学荣誉
• Concurrent enrollment in (or completion of) Pre-calculus Accelerated or Honors
• 科学GPA 3.3分或以上; overall GPA 3.3分或以上

美联社生物学 

• 完成生物、化学、 & 物理
• 总GPA 3.3分或以上，科学GPA 3分.3分或以上.
  • 学生 not meeting these criteria may 提交 an appeal under the following alternate criteria: 总GPA 3.7 or higher and successful completion of 生物学 and 化学 with 科学GPA 3.7 or higher and approval of the department chair
  • Concurrent enrollment in 美联社科学 Laboratory, meeting once per week before school

AP化学

• Completion of 生物学, 化学/化学荣誉 强烈推荐, & 物理
• 总GPA 3.3分或以上，科学GPA 3分.3分或以上.

AP物理C

皇冠体育官网 requires all students to complete a minimum of two years of 实验室 science: one in the life sciences (such as 生物学) and one in the physical sciences (such as 化学). College-bound students are advised to enroll in 生物学, 化学, 物理, to consider a 4th year science elective or Advanced Placement course. 我们所有的科学课程, with the exception of the 科学 Research Project, 环境科学, 及工程课程, fulfill UC’s 实验室 science requirement. These courses are UC-approved as science electives. The department concurs with the recommendation of the College Board that 美联社生物学, 化学, 物理 be taught as second-year courses. There is simply too much material to be taught with the breadth and depth necessary for a first year course. 学生 who only take the AP course without the prerequisite year-long introductory course are at a disadvantage in college.

The pass rate for any AP course can be adjusted by limiting enrollment in courses. Our enrollment criteria are, at present, much less strict than they could be. This is not necessarily a bad thing as long as we are still comparable or above national pass rate.
